They are a set of devastating spells that you can use against your enemies or for your allies and can be performed by pressing the skill keys in a set order. Magick are powerful spells that you earn/find while playing Magicka story levels and can summon at any time. Movement and aiming felt far more intuitive with two thumbsticks, but traditionalists can rest easy since the mouse and keyboard control scheme will remain on PC.There are 21 different Magick Combinations that you can find in the vanilla game. The eight spells are all mapped to the face buttons, with a shoulder button tap swapping between each quartet. I tested Magicka 2 using a DualShock 4, and while my rusty Magicka skills made for some mixups on the battlefield, there wasn't much blame I could put on the control scheme. It doesn't seem as if the developers are going to dumb down the combat in the slightest when the series makes its debut on the PlayStation 4. Combine all of that with the fact that there can be up to three partners to mix elements with (and hit with friendly fire), and the depth of the combat becomes truly stunning. As in the previous game, you can stack up to five spells in a single casting, making for some unique combos that can slow down time and deal even further damage. Where things get crazy is when spells mix elements like earth and fire can combine to make a molten rock or tossing lightning at a doused enemy will cause additional damage. With eight spell types, ranging from lightning and fire to dark magic and shields, each can be deployed as a beam, in an area of effect, or to oneself. What Magicka parties lack in individuality (every member has the same tools at their disposal) they more than make up for with a deep spell-making system. If you're one of the millions of PC gamers who have picked up the original Magicka in the nearly four years it's been around, you know that there's already a great base for co-op adventuring.
